Pie Party 2011: A special visitor meets the childrenThe traditional pie parties were once again a fantastic success with children from the whole parish taking part in games, dancing and eating!

Well; it’s that time of year again!  The shops have had shelves filled, it seems, for months, with goodies under the title ‘seasonal’; the schools are thinking about Fayres, children have written their letters to ‘Santa’, and are glued to the television advertisements for the latest X-box and Wii games, let alone the other must-have gadgets and gizmos (most of which seem to be very noisy)!

It is, as Noddy Holder put it, CHRISTMAS!

The congregations of Channelkirk and Lauder Churches elected Mr. James J. Griggs BD MTh. to be their minister following a recommendation by the vacancy ‘Nominating Committee’

Sixty versions of the King James Bible and not two the same; the oldest, dated 1687, came for Sheila Hogg of Birkenside; another dated 1716 belonged to Jean Logan of Burncastle and one from Norma Brown of Lauder dated 1854.  Each bible displayed was accompanied by a short story of its history. Plans are afoot to produce a photographic record of Lauderdale’s ‘Bible in Bloom’

Welcome to the first edition of the Gifts for God Newsletter!

Channelkirk and Lauder is your Church and it cannot exist without you. To be successful we need committed, active people who are prepared to offer their time, talents and money. On 4th June 2009, the Church Board decided to embark on a Gifts for God programme.

Our aims are to:

(i) review our regular giving so that we can expand the life and work of the Church.

A year past March the weather vane which sat on top of the Lauder Church tower was blown down by the March winds and landed, like a spear in flight, into the church graveyard. Fortunately no-one was around at the time and little damage was done to the roof of the church.

 Housegroups fun

House groups consist of small groups of Christian friends who come together in a home, share friendship, a short prayer and read a chapter or so of the Bible and discuss it together.  Everyone has different 'takes' on what is read and different life experience so all opinions are valid and welcomed.  After all the hard work, refreshments are shared and the world is put to rights as we enjoy each others' company for a while.
